Family Rivalry In The Making - Michelle Obama Will Soon Release Book Of Her Own

Could there a budding rivalry between the former First Couple on the literary front? Time will tell on that, as former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama are both slated to come out with books in the future. However, we will get a sneak peek on how that may play out, courtesy of two interesting projects that are slated to hit the shelves within mere weeks of each other.

As USA Today shares, Ten Speed Press has announced that a new book featuring White House photographs of Michelle will hit the shelves this fall. The company announced the release on social media.

“Coming in October from @TenSpeedPress : CHASING LIGHT: Michelle Obama Through the Lens of a White House Photographer,” read the post.

The book will feature 150 photos and commentary from former White House photographer Amanda Lucidon, who offered up some words on the project in a statement.

"Mrs. Obama is a source of light and inspiration in my life. She was a mentor to me and so many people around the world,” she said. “The work she has done with young people, especially girls and underserved youth, has helped me realize that I want to spend my life helping others reach their fullest potential."

Interestingly, there’s another picture book on the Obama White House years due out this fall, but this one has a different feature subject.

“Chasing Light arrives three weeks before Obama: An Intimate Portrait, a book of Barack Obama pictures by White House photographer Pete Souza,” USA Today reports. “Souza has built a wide following on social media by posting shots of Obama that contrast dramatically with images from Donald Trump's administration.”

So did the former president insist on giving his wife a head start? There’s no word on that, but we can expect both books to be quite popular. The former First Couple left office with some solid approval ratings, and that should translate into plenty of sales of these two gems. As Refinery29 explains, it may be time for fans to start making some room on the shelves.

“It seems that Chasing Light and Obama: An Intimate Portrait would be nice companions to books the Obamas and the Bidens are currently writing,” according to Refinery29. “So now, if you'll excuse us, we need to start planning how to make space on our bookshelf.”

That sounds like a wise move, as anticipation for the first two books should be high. In addition to being awfully popular, the Obamas have been extremely photogenic throughout their time in the public eye, so we would imagine that there are some real gems to be seen in these books.

So which one will make it to the top of the charts? That remains to be seen, but we’ll assume it’ll be a neck-and-neck battle. Of course, one part of the happy couple will have to walk away with bragging rights. No word on whether the couple has made any side bets on which one it may be.
