Former Campaign Manager Shocks Audience When Asked If He Witnessed Trump Be Racist

As the year draws to a close, morning and night programs are recapping some of the most controversial moments of Donald Trump’s presidency, from his time as a candidate to his stint in the White House. ‘The View’, a daytime show on ABC, recently ran one such segment, with co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Paula Faris and Sara Haines recalling their reaction to some of Trump’s comments about illegal immigrants and Mexican workers.

In particular, the female co-hosts slammed President Trump for referring to many Mexicans as “rapists.” In the same segment, ‘The View’ hosts gave a former Trump campaign manager and program guest, Corey Lewandowski, the chance to clear the air about the behavior of his previous boss. Mr. Lewandowski’s response stunned the audience, who responded with jeers and angry catcalls.

“You have to remember the rest of the quote. He also said, ‘Some, I assume, are good people,’” said Mr. Lewandowski. “Here’s the thing. I know President Trump, not only is he not racist or misogynist, he’s the exact opposite. Because you know what, look, I’ve had the privilege of sitting next to him, and he doesn’t care if you’re white, green, blue or orange. He doesn't care if you're a male or a female.”

However, the crowd were not impressed with the former Trump campaign manager, laughing and jeering at his lackluster defense of the president.

As the discussion continued, Mr. Lewandowsky made another attempt to defend Trump, telling the co-hosts that Trump’s stance on Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, an illegal immigrant who was recently acquitted of murdering Kate Steinle, was an example of President Trump’s brash but fair-minded rhetoric.

This is what Trump said when asked about Mr. Zarate, who allegedly killed Ms. Steinle by accident when his gun misfired on a San Francisco pier, and his acquittal: “This week, we had a terrible tragedy of justice. Kate Steinle’s killer, the man who killed her in cold blood was let off because of an injustice justice system,” began President Trump. “He'd been deported six times in this country. And this poor girl died — a beautiful young girl in California — was shot and killed. And you know what? It doesn’t matter if you’re white or black, green or orange, justice should have been brought.”

Joy Behar, one of the most outspoken critics of Trump on 'The View’ struck back at Lewandowski after he referenced Mr. Zarate, telling him that policy cannot be based on anecdotes.

But now, online commenters are turning on ‘The View’, with hundreds of social media users speaking up in criticism of the hosts for cherry picking their own anecdotes when it aided their political objectives. “Policy is not based on anecdote she say. Well why do they trot out some kid brought here from Mexico who is doing well in school to promote their policy?” wrote one commenter.

Luckily, an IJR commenter, ‘Captain America’, was there to cut through the debate, succinctly writing: “If you oppose deportation of illegals who commit crimes you are an idiot.”
