Meteorologists Says One Sentence To Viewer Complaining About Her Legs

If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. While that age-old sentiment may sound hokey and corny, getting more people on board with following that advice would help level out the amount of incredibly unnecessary incidents dramatically.

One of the unfortunate realities of today’s always-connected world is that such instances are on the rise, and the relative anonymity afforded by being a keyboard hero emboldens far too many people to say whatever the heck they feel like saying.

As the Independent Journal Review shares, Fox News meteorologist Janice Dean was recently on the receiving end of one of those snide remarks. While public figures are well aware that they need to take criticism and snark with a large grain of salt, this one really struck home for Dean.

“Dear Janice please stop allowing fox (sic) to dress you in those short skirts. They are not flattering on you," the user began.

"Your (sic) an attractive lady, love the 80's (sic) hair, but your legs are distracting every time you walk on screen."

The post was beyond poor taste, and we can only imagine it was quite hurtful to Dean. To her credit, she held her head up high and offered up a simple reply that she wasn’t all that shy about sharing.

“I'm sorry if you don't like my legs. I'm grateful I have them to walk with," she began.

"You're right. I don't look like the typical person on TV, and I'm proud to be a size 10."

"Imagine that! You can always turn the channel if you're offended by my huge legs,” she wrote.

“Hope you don't mind. I may share your post with everyone on my FB page."

She signed, "All the best, Janice.”

Dean’s simple reply quickly gained a ton of traction, and she was applauded for not letting the troll bring her down. She would go on to offer up some additional thoughts on why the post captured her attention in such a way.

“I have had multiple sclerosis (MS) for more than 10 years,” Dean explained.

“Because with MS, I could lose my ability to walk literally any day. So I’ve learned to be proud of my legs and am grateful for them every day of my life.”

That certainly places things in perspective, and we can only hope that the wayward commenter has learned a valuable lesson here. There was absolutely no reason to be so hyper-critical of Dean.

For what should be an unnecessary news flash, not everyone is a perfect specimen. We all have our flaws - both readily apparent ones and well-hidden ones - and it’s not all that pleasant when they get called out in public fashion.

In addition, most children learn this lesson at a very young age and go on to live their lives without feeling the need to attempt to make others feel bad about themselves. For those that haven’t learned that lesson, it’s sincerely sad.

If you have a legitimate complaint or gripe about something that Dean did or said, then that’s all fine, well, and good. But to call her out over an issue of appearance that seems to bother you and only you?

That’s just beyond sad, and we hope the commenter begins to see things differently after Dean’s response.
