HIV-Positive Track Coach Pleads Guilty To Abusing 42 Boys

An incredibly disturbing story has emanated out of the state of Maryland, and it’s one of those ones that you would think would only reside in the mind of a deeply disturbed scriptwriter. Carlos Deangelo Bell, a 30-year-old former school track coach from of Waldorf, Maryland, has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing 42 underage boys.

That’s revolting enough in and of itself, but this story gets a whole lot worse. Bell is HIV-positive.

As People shares, the incidents took place during the period of May 2015 to June 2017. During that time, Bell was employed at two separate schools in Charles County.

The various instances of abuse took place both on and off school grounds, and the victims ranged in age from 11 to 17. Many of the victims have been tested for the virus, but thankfully none of them have tested positive.

When the allegations first came to light, Bell was fired from his job as an instructional assistant at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School in Waldorf, and he would also lose his position as an indoor track coach at La Plata High School. In a press release, the Charles County Public Schools announced that they continue “to work with the sheriff’s office and the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office as they conduct their investigation.”

“Bell was a temporary instructional assistant (IA) at J.P. Ryon Elementary School from September 2014 to March 2015. He was an IA at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School starting in March 2015 until Dec. 22, 2016,” the release read in part.

“Bell was the indoor track coach at Maurice J. McDonough High School during the 2015-16 school year, and coached the indoor track team at La Plata High School from November 2016 to December 2016.”

Bell was initially charged with 206 counts for his unconscionable actions, but a plea deal knocked the charges down to 27 counts, including sex offense by force, sex offense, attempted transmission of HIV virus, sexual abuse of a minor, solicitation of a minor, filming child pornography, and displaying obscene matter.

Authorities note that some of the incidents took place inside of Bell’s home, while prosecutors state that some of the abuse was recorded on his personal cell phone.

When Bell was initially arrested, he was accused of abusing at least ten male students. Bell would inform the authorities that he was HIV-positive at that point, and the investigation would turn up incredibly disturbing information.

Bell is said to have been linked to the production of child pornography, and one of his cell phone videos reportedly show him having sex with a middle school student in a classroom. Additional victims came forward as the investigation moved along, and the amount of damage that Bell has done is truly immeasurable.

He’s due to be sentenced later this year, and prosecutors are pushing for him to be sentenced to up to 190 years in prison. We can only hope that the judge takes the prosecutors' recommendations to heart, as there is absolutely no justification for this man to ever see the light of day again after his grotesque acts with children that are now scarred for life.

While his punishment will not erase those scars, at least a small sense of solace can be found in the fact that he’s no longer out on the streets.
