Ivanka Complains About Gender Pay Gap - Appears Oblivious To Its Prevalence In White House

Even as Ivanka Trump claims she's working in the White House as a champion of women's issues, those issues become a bigger and bigger problem under her father's watch. Ivanka says closing the gender pay gap is her new mission in life, but apparently, she can't even stop it from widening in the White House. Either Ivanka is lying to us, or she's the most epic fail that women's rights advocacy has ever known.

Working women in the White House are making significantly less than the working men, according to a report by CNN. It's even worse than the national average. The Trump administration is only paying women 80 cents on the dollar. It hasn’t always been this way; the gap has tripled in just six months under the Trump administration.

On average, female White House employees make about $21,000 less per year than their male counterparts. Staff is about evenly split. There are 359 regular employees, 47 percent are female and 53 percent are male. However, men are simply earning more. Half of the men at the White House earn more than $95,000 annually. Half of the women, on the other hand, earn 70,000 or less.

The higher the salary, the fewer women are found to be getting a share of the pie. Men are more often to be found in the higher positions as well. The highest paid positions in the white house earn $179,700 per year. More than three-fourths of the people earning that high of a salary are men.

A White House Annual Report to Congress confirms the CNN number-crunching, which is very sad. Ivanka Trump, who is not drawing any salary at all, has tried to bring awareness to the gender pay gap. In April, she tweeted, "#EqualPayDay is a reminder that women deserve equal pay for equal work. We must work to close the gender pay gap!"

That same month, she released the book, "Women Who Work: Rewriting the Rules of Success."

Yet for all her advocacy, she can't even help level the playing field in the building in which she works. You would think the White House, with some of the most competent employees anywhere, would set an example by closing that wage gap. But apparently, it's just not happening.

Sadly, the gender pay gap remains a struggle even outside of the White House. White women continue to earn 82 cents on the dollar of what their male counterparts earn. For women of color, it's even worse. Black women earn only 68 percent of what men earn, and Latina women earn just 62 percent of what white men are paid.

This is ironic, since women have begun to pass men in education. The wage gap has remained stagnant, despite the fact that more women have college degrees than men.

Ivanka may actually be in a position in which she can make a difference. The question is, will she? So far, she’s tanking miserably.

The irony seemed to be lost on her.
