Judge Makes Shocking Ruling In Case Of Teacher Who Raped 8th Grader

A teacher was arrested and sentenced after a disturbing relationship with a student came to light. Jennifer Caswell, 31, is currently serving a 10-year sentence for having sex with a 15-year-old student at Hollis Middle School. She was sentenced to 15 years back in 2015, but five years of the sentence was suspended. During the salacious trial, it was revealed that she had a half-dozen sexual encounters with the student. Caswell’s life has been ruined, and the hits keep on coming.

As the Daily Mail shares, the victim and his father filed a civil suit against Caswell and the Oklahoma school district in which she worked. The suit was filed on the grounds of intentional infliction of emotional distress, and the verdict is in. The jury has found in favor of the victim, and the teen has been awarded a $1 million verdict.

“In this case, a teacher abused her position of trust and authority to sexually violate a young man who will face the emotional effects of the encounter for the rest of his life,” Judge Robin Cauthron wrote in her decision.

Charles Watts, an attorney for the victim's family, noted some facts on the case during a recent interview.

“The truth is that this has a terrible effect on a child,” he said. “You can expect in his future life that he will have a hard time with relationships.”

While attorneys acknowledge that the funds are more than likely uncollectible, the verdict serves as a condemnation of Causwell’s actions. She achieved a level of notoriety in an appearance on the Dr. Phil Show in 2015.

“He came in, I was working on things, he kept coming closer to me and I would kind of walk away to the other part, you know another room, another area of the classroom and he just walked up to me and then he kissed me. And then it just kind of went from there,” she said at the time. “I was walking around the classroom straightening up the desks and he came and I guess it was standing up.”

Needless to say, her appearance didn’t curry her much favor. However, she did provide some insight into her emotional state at the time of her disturbing interactions with the student.

“I kept on saying, 'No, you know we can’t do this. No, no, no.’ He wasn't forcing me, I mean, I could've easily just walked out of my classroom, but I didn't. But I was resisting because I knew it was wrong, but I didn't. I just couldn't believe I had done something like that,” she added, later noting that “I felt very unwanted by my husband. I was with him for ten years and I was never complimented. We never held hands or were physical. He was very flirty and I should have put a stop to it and I didn't. I wasn't used to the attention.”

While her marital troubles are noted, that doesn’t make her own self-indictment any less chilling. She knew it was wrong, and she did it anyway. Case closed.
