Man Was In A Pickle, But A Generous Homeless Man Selflessly Offered Assistance

A man in Manchester hurried over to a restaurant where he and his wife had planned to celebrate her birthday. It was supposed to be a festive evening, but unfortunately, the man was stopped at the entrance of the restaurant for not meeting the dress code. The man was wearing flip-flops, and the restaurant required shoes.

Akbar Badshah didn't know what he was going to do. He didn't want to let his wife, Romzin, down on her birthday, but they were stuck out on the pavement instead of inside celebrating. They had traveled a long distance from home to have their night out, and going back to change his shoes wasn't an option.

That's when they got an offer from an unexpected place. A homeless man named John was sitting outside of the restaurant, and John and Badshah got to talking. Badshah joked about borrowing John's shoes, but John handed them over without hesitation.

“He said: ‘You won’t believe this, but I’ve got a brand new pair of shoes from an outreach project’, and he said I could borrow them, so we swapped shoes."

Badshah joked, "I said, ‘John what size are you’ he said ‘14’, I’m a size 9 so it’s a good job it wasn’t the other way round."

John absolutely insisted that Badshah borrow the shoes and the couple go dine. They went into the restaurant and had a lovely time. When he came out, he returned John's shoes.

Mr. Badshah tried to offer John money, and tried to hand him a 10-pound note (approximately $13 U.S. dollars). “He wouldn’t take it. I said ‘please, please I want to give it to you," Badshah

“He kept saying he didn’t want anything in return. I gave John a hug and we took some photos together – we just felt so touched by what he had done."

John's good deed did not go unrewarded, after all. While they were out there talking about it, another elderly man passed by and overheard. He asked what was going on, and Badshah relayed the story to him. The elderly man pulled out a 50-pound note (about $65 U.S. dollars).

“John couldn’t believe it. It was unbelievable karma,” Mr. Badshah said.

There's a terrible stigmatism that comes with being homeless. People are often bound to think the worst of you - that you must be a drug addict, too lazy to work, or have mental health issues. Unfortunately, there truly are some people who are just so down on their luck it is hard to recover. Sometimes you can find yourself in a hole so deep, it's impossible to dig your way out.

Homeless people are people, too, and they do their share of good deeds as well. One homeless man returned an expensive diamond ring that he found. Another found a bag of cash containing $42,000 and turned it in to the police. And let's not forget right there in Manchester when, during the Manchester Stadium bombing, two homeless men sleeping outside the stadium ran into the building after the explosions and tried to help the injured victims.

Without John, their plans would have been ruined.
