Children Visiting White House Quickly Warm Up To Melania Trump

On Monday, just after Thanksgiving, the White House revealed their 2017 Christmas decorations. The theme this year is 'Time-Honored Traditions', and the First Lady did a beautiful job bringing seasonal cheer to the hallowed halls.

A group of school children invited to do crafts at the White House from Joint Base Andrews were enchanted by the beautiful decorations, and the FLOTUS herself.

When Melania walked into the East Room to greet the young guests, one boy ran up to her and asked, "Are you the first lady?"

The young man gave her a big hug, and other children scurried over to get in on the hugging.

"She's beautiful, like an angel!" one of the children exclaimed about Melania, who looked stunning in a cream-colored Christian Dior dress with bell sleeves and a gold belt. The excited little girl repeated herself several times, telling everyone that Melania was 'like an angel'.

Mrs. Trump sat down with the children to help them make some decorations to bring back to their school. She then oversaw some Christmas card making, and the construction of 'gumdrop trees' though Melania did warn the kids about too much sugar. The FLOTUS, who has always enjoyed being a very hands-on mother, seems to look very happy and natural when she is with children.

Apparently, Melania is very hands-on when it comes to Christmas decorating as well. The White House staff reports that Mrs. Trump oversaw and pitched in on just about every aspect of the decor, including the 18-foot tall tree that takes up nearly the whole blue room. The tree is decorated with vintage bulbs from all 50 states and U.S. territories, and sports blue and golden ribbons and bows.

The East Colonnade is flanked with sparkling white branches like a passageway into a magical land. The Grand Foyer and Cross Hall are decorated in a Nutcracker Suite theme, and the snow-flocked trees with crystal and glass ornaments give an amazing winter wonderland feel to the room. The images of the trees are reflected on the floor that looks like a frozen lake.

Melania didn't leave any stone unturned, it seems there was a festive yet elegant touch to just about every room and corner of the White House. The tables were set with President Ronald Regan's red and gold China. In the Library, there is an 1866 copy of 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens out on display. The red room features a homey tree decked with red plaid ribbon.

One show-stopper is the spectacular giant White House gingerbread house. The perfect model has a little wreath in every window, which are identical to the wreathes Mrs. Trump had designed for the real White House windows. The cookie house is on display in the dining room.

Not everything is new; the traditional White House creche, given to the executive mansion by Mrs. Charles W. Engelhard in 1967, was put on display in the East Room again as it has been in many years past. Visitors in December will be able to see the beautiful displays in the public areas of the White House, and can now get a glimpse of the White House movie theater that recently opened to the public.
