Melania Trump Delivers Powerful Remarks At Monument Site - Envisions Living Without Fear

“People should be able to live their lives without fear,” Melania Trump declared Thursday at the Warsaw Uprising Monument in Poland.

The first lady joined her husband at the historic site, which commemorates the country’s liberation from occupying German forces in the 1940s. The crowd chanted “USA!” when Melania appeared on stage. She introduced the president following her brief remarks. Earlier in the day, she and the Polish leader’s wife met with children at a science center. The first lady gave the kids red, white and blue backpacks adorned with the U.S. flag’s stars-and-stripes design. The Daily Mail noted that Melania often visits kids during her travels with the president.

The first lady described as “wonderful” her experiences in Poland, where her mother was born. “My husband and I have enjoyed visiting your beautiful country,” she said. Authorities told reporters that Melania will return to the country soon. Her husband plans to accompany her, and meet with Polish President Borut Pahor and other Slovenian officials.

“As many of you know, a main focus of my husband’s presidency is safety and security of the American people,” Melania told her audience Thursday. “I think all of us can agree people should be able to live their lives without fear, no matter what country they live in. That is my wish for all of us around the world.”

Among the other dignitaries at the event were former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who served as an adviser and campaign surrogate for Trump during last year’s White House race, and Lech Walesa, a former Polish president. The Trumps’ next scheduled stop on their second foreign trip was the G-20 economic summit in Germany on Friday.

The Daily Mail devoted most of its report to describing the first lady’s clothing and accessories. The British news site gushed about her midi découpagede dress, a $2,650 garment designed by Delpozo of Spain. It featured blue wool crepe, pink stripes and a fitted bodice. While Melania has worn designs from a number of famous fashion houses, the event in Poland was the first time she had donned Delpozo since her husband took office. The first lady also wore blue trousers by Valentino, black-suede heels by Manolo Blahnik, flat-rimmed sunglasses by Victoria Beckham and a black cashmere top. She carried a handbag with a $75,000 price tag.

When Melania stepped off Air Force One upon arriving in Poland, she sported an emerald green trench designed by Diane von Furstenberg. Some observers considered the choice odd because von Furstenberg is a friend and supporter of Hillary Clinton.

The New York Times reported that President Trump told the crowd at the Warsaw monument: “The fundamental question of our time is whether the West has the will to survive. Do we have the confidence in our values to defend them at any cost? Do we have enough respect for our citizens to protect our borders? Do we have the desire and the courage to preserve our civilization in the face of those who would subvert and destroy it?”

Trump called on Russia to “cease its destabilizing activities in Ukraine and elsewhere and its support for hostile regimes, including Syria and Iran.”
