Single Mom Worried About Money Given Huge Tip From Strangers

While it’s true that Christmastime is the most wonderful time of year, the season can be chock full of stress for those that are having a tough time making ends meet as it is. Gifts aren’t the only thing that makes the holiday bright, but it’s certainly a big part of things when there are children involved.

For those that are having a rough go of things on the financial front, it’s hard enough shuffling things around to manage the necessities. When you tack on the desire to fulfill your children’s holiday wishes, the stress can pile on in a hurry.

That’s the situation that Trisha Murphy, a single mom-of-three from Maine, was in. She’s working two jobs in a bid to get ahead, but she’s having a tough time keeping her head above water.

She was already at her wits end with Christmas around the corner, and then she would have another problem dropped in her lap: her car was towed away, and she had no clue how she was going to afford getting it back, let alone deal with everything else on her plate.

As Inside Edition shares, everything was piling up on Murphy as she worked a recent shift at Denny’s, and let’s just say that she was having a day. She pressed on and put on a happy face for her customers, but inside she was a mess.

Murphy was wracking her brain and beating herself up about the pickle she was in, and we would imagine she was waiting for even more shoes to drop.

“I was feeling very stressed and almost like a failure. I thought for sure that Christmas was going to be a failure and I wasn't going to get my car back,” Murphy explained. “Without my car, I can't get to work, so it would have been the start to a downward spiral.”

A table of three came in and sat in her section, and Murphy went on with her day. There was nothing particularly remarkable about the guys she waited on, and the meal seemed to go off without a hitch. Murphy dropped the check and went on about her duties.

“They looked like they just came from a job site, nothing out of the ordinary,” she continued. “Their meal totaled 38.00.”

When the men paid the check, Murphy nearly fell to the floor. They left her an extraordinarily generous tip of $500.

“I couldn't believe it when I saw the tip. I thought it was a mistake until he smiled and said, ‘Merry Christmas.’ I thought I was going to faint,” Murphy added.

Murphy profusely thanked the kind strangers, and she let them know that they had just saved Christmas for her and her family. She’ll be able to get her car back too, and she can confidently say that she’s sincerely looking forward to the holiday.

It’s a huge difference compared to how she was feeling prior to being touched by such a kind act, and it sounds like she’ll be able to make things special for her little ones after all. The stranger's kind act not only made her day, but there’s a good chance it made the rest of her year as well.
