Police Horrified When They Discover What Parents Did To 2-Year-Old

A couple has been arrested and charged after police discovered what happened to their two-year-old girl. The couple initially told police conflicting stories. The mother blamed the girl's injuries on an accidental fall, but autopsy reports show the toddler had multiple injuries in various stages of healing when she died.

Keinosha Taper, the 20-year-old mother of the little girl, called emergency services on June 24 about her daughter Amelia. The Memphis Fire Department responded to the call and rushed the toddler to the hospital. Amelia was in critical condition upon arriving at the hospital and pronounced dead a short while later.

The mother told investigators that she and her boyfriend, 27-year-old Gregory Ford, were arguing the night before Amelia's death. She says Ford pushed her while she held the baby, causing the two to tumble back on the bed. Amelia, she said, fell off the bed and onto the floor, and Taper says she fell off the bed onto Amelia.

Taper also told investigators that she threw her daughter into a playpen, causing the girl to hit her head on the corner. Amelia began vomiting and looked lethargic, but at the time, the mother didn’t seek medical treatment immediately. She and Ford waited about 25 minutes to call for help.

Ford reportedly gave a conflicting story, but an autopsy on Amelia painted an entirely different scenario. The baby had suffered from several internal injuries, including a very recent laceration to her liver. She also had multiple tears and lacerations internally, and an abdominal hemorrhage. The medical examiner says it looks like her abdomen had been punched and/or kicked.

Amelia also had bruises on her scalp, face, head and two fractured ribs. Some of the injuries look like they'd been healing from a week to a month.

Taper and Ford face several charges, including aggravated child abuse and first-degree murder.

Taper's mother is having a difficult time coping with the death of her granddaughter, and the reports about her own daughter. NiQuetta Baldridge Smith told reporters at Fox News, "I read it some of it. But I just, I couldn't stomach it was just it was just sickening to know the abuse that she suffered at the hands of them."

"I've lost my grandbaby and my daughter. So, it's hard. It's really hard," Smith added.

Amelia's father, Larry Gordon, says he 'can sleep better now' that the real story came out, and the guilty parties have been charged. "My baby ain't got to be turning over in her grave now."

Gordon says he suspected foul play since he got the news that his daughter was dead. "I break down at any given time; it was my child, my baby... and I will be at every court date."

For now, Taper and Ford are behind bars and bail has not been set. It’s unclear if the mother or her boyfriend have obtained attorneys yet. They’ve both been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.
