Russian Woman Claims She Was Held Captive For 6 Years After Meeting Man On Dating Site

The world is quite different from the way things used to be in a countless number of ways, and that includes in the way that some folks meet prospective mates. Online dating has grown from a curiosity to a massive business, but there remain some perils to meeting folks online.

We’ve all heard the horror stories about dates from hell that turn folks off from pursuing a mate in that fashion, but there’s an even more unseemly side to things. In extreme cases, there have been folks that have found themselves in extreme danger after meeting someone online.

Unfortunately, we have yet another example of that, and this one emanates from Russia. As the Daily Mail shares, a woman in her 20s has alleged that a man she met online held her captive for six years.

She says that she was treated as a sex slave, and that she was beaten and tortured regularly by her captor, Rinat Bilyanov. The woman would have four children during her time in captivity, and she says that she was never even allowed outside of the house.

She was finally able to contact police this week, and they would respond and storm the home where she was staying. She’s free now, but she has a frightening story to tell - as well as pics of her bruises and scars to support her claims.

“We were locked inside all the time. I could not go out anywhere. My youngest daughter has been outside only once in her life,” the woman explained. “He kicked me, beating me with a stick. He said to our son: 'Ruslan, when you grow up, you must keep beating her like this, with your fists, kicking her, because she is very bad.' This is what he told our children about me.”

As she explains it, she was taken as his hostage soon after meeting the man, and she endured a hellish existence.

“I suffered for six years. He beat me and the children saw it. Once he broke his stick when beating me,” she continued.

She explains that she had no way of escaping, and that her captor would indicate she would only be set free if he received compensation from her parents.

“When I was breastfeeding, I got pregnant again. All his evil was expressed on me,” she said.

“He said I could leave the flat only when my parents paid him 200 million roubles (£2.5 million). We could not go out, only my husband had the keys.”

A preliminary investigation is underway, and police have confirmed that the man will see jail time if the allegations are proven true. In any event, this is yet another cautionary tale about the perils of online dating. While it brings a number of benefits to the table, it remains imperative to keep your guard up and bolt if there’s anything resembling a red flag to be found in your travels through the online dating world.
