Sources Say Melania Trump Is Real White House Gatekeeper

A few weeks after White House Chief of Staff John Kelly took over, he decided he had to make some changes to end the chaos. So he laid down the law and cut off access to President Trump except through him. That meant everybody, including White House staff and outside parties, with the obvious exception of first lady Melania Trump.

Based on a recent article in Vanity Fair, a few friends of the Trump family have figured out how to bypass the controls imposed by Kelly. They say the easiest thing is to just contact Melania directly.

According to one source close to the Trumps, "If I don't want to wait 24 hours for a call from the president, getting to Melania is much easier."

Melania Trump’s official role at large has been questioned by some in the media, as other modern First Ladies have had more active roles. That said, any way you slice it, Melania does without question have access to (and the ability to influence) the president.

The Vanity Fair article also claims it was the first lady who really convinced The Donald to run for the presidency.

In a classic case of watch out for what you wish for, as one of Melania’s friends commented for the article, "This isn't something she wanted and it isn't something he ever thought he'd win."

Note that the first lady is not merely a gatekeeper. It seems clear she does have some input into Trump’s decisions. Early this summer, Politico reported that she had been suggesting to Trump it was best to let then-Press Secretary Sean Spicer go. Of course, Spicer was replaced a couple of months later (much to his relief).

After the article was published on Tuesday, a spokesperson for the first lady hammered Vanity Fair for suggesting that Melania isn’t completely thrilled to serve the nation. The spokesperson went on to deny the claims in the article, calling it "fake news."

A few hours later, a statement was released by White House PR: "Once again part of the liberal media, this time Vanity Fair, has written a story riddled with unnamed sources and false assertions."

"As a magazine tailored to women it is shameful that they continue to write salacious and false stories...As has been stated on the record many times before, she is honored by her role.”

However, other reporters have also reported similar stories about using Melania to get info to Donald, and a few Trump friends and well-known supporters have also commented how easy it is to get Trump’s ear if you know his family.

For example, Alex Jones, the radio host and full-throated conspiracy theorist, claimed just last week that he has managed to get the president to repeat his theories "at least five or six times." The shock jock also says that the president often uses notepads in which he writes down ideas and thoughts he hears from people who show up at his campaign rallies or other public events.
