Woman Barely Survives Domestic Abuse, Has These Crushing Words For Responding Officer

A domestic abuse victim had some chilling words for police after they rescued her. Police caught the woman's husband trying to strangle her to death. Hopefully, now that she has a second chance at life, she'll move on.

Police went to investigate a domestic disturbance call in Chickasha, Oklahoma on March 13. They found a husband and wife engaged in a vicious dispute and removed the woman from the home for her own safety.

The abuse victim, sadly, didn't know any better and went back for more. Hours later, police received another call to the same address. When they arrived, they heard a ruckus and peeked through the window. Officers witnessed the husband yank his wife's head back. He proceeded to put his hands around her neck and tried to strangle her.

Police immediately kicked down the door and burst in, rescuing the woman for the second time in the same day. They found her sprawled on the floor, weak and unable to move.

According to a police report, the woman told the officers, “He told me, this time, he’d kill me... I don't know what love is.”

“Well it's definitely not this,” an officer told her.

“It's not this,” she agreed.

“Even as an advocate who has done this work for years, things like that are hard for me to watch,” said Angela Beatty, who reviewed a video of the woman's testimony.

Beatty is the director of Domestic Violence Victim Services with the YWCA of Oklahoma City. “I think people try to sweep violence in families under the rug. We want to ignore it. We want to act like it doesn’t happen in our communities. But, domestic violence will only rise to a level that a community is willing to accept,” she said.

Some people who find themselves in abusive situations for a long period of time forget that they don't deserve to be abused. Hopefully this incident, and the brief conversation with the police officer, will turn on the light switch in the woman's head and make her realize that she can do better than this.
