Woman's Husband Receives New Citizen Welcome Letter - Signed By The Wrong President

Ever since President Donald Trump was sworn in, there has been a perception that his administration is in over its head. Trump’s desire to shake things up sold well on the campaign trail, but there’s a big difference between boastful claims and actually delivering the goods. Partially due to that perception swirling about, the Trump White House has been subjected to an inordinate amount of criticism. Some of it is quite justified, while other parts are a result of the perceptions being hard to shake.

As Yahoo shares, here’s a criticism that’s well warranted. Aisha Sultan, a columnist for STLtoday, has shared a perfect example of why some folks regard the Trump White House as unnecessarily sloppy. She and her British husband were excitedly awaiting his pending citizenship to the US. The couple received a welcome package, and it contained a letter signed by the President of the United States.

According to the letter, that would be Barack Obama. Sultan quickly shared the letter for all to see.

“My British-born husband takes his oath of citizenship today. In the packet for new Americans, the welcome letter from POTUS is from Obama,” she shared.

Before anyone gets too excited and thinks they’ve been dreaming for several months, this is just another example of sloppiness. The form letter that the White House uses was never changed to include the proper signature.

“omg they haven't updated that yet?” shared one user.

No, it hasn’t, and this is one of those times where the use of the phrase ‘omg’ is perfectly appropriate. You would imagine that there’s a ton of form letters that the White House uses. Building on that thought, you would also assume that someone - or several people - have been tasked with making sure that they are up to date.

That’s the way it would work in any other organization, and those that failed to keep up on their tasks would be dealt with swiftly. Mistakes happen to the best of us, but this is a completely unnecessary oversight that could have been caught with a proper series of checks and balances.

“Congrats Aisha. My UK-born husband became a citizen under Obama, and looking back, we took it for granted,” shared another user.

“Actually I hope they keep it that way, the only welcome letter that matters: it's the one I received when I became citizen. Respect, O!” added another commenter.

The Trump administration is quick to play defense when it faces criticism, but it also manages to provide plenty of items that are ripe for the picking. If you find yourself constantly having to defend yourself, wouldn’t you feel some sense of urgency to make sure that all you do is done to the best of your abilities? The vast majority of employees would, as a failure to do just that would quickly land them on the hot seat.

Hopefully, the White House department tasked with managing the form letters uses this as an opportunity to get all of its ducks in a row. Perhaps that same sense of urgency will become contagious around the rest of the White House as well.

Sultan shared the gaffe on Twitter.

It received an expected reaction.
