Donald Trump Jr. Responds To Russian Offer Of Collusion - "I Love It"

After months of circumstantial accusations against President Trump and the dubious connections between the Trump Administration and the Russian Government, Donald Trump Jr. has finally been implicated in an explicit act of collusion.

The complicated saga began when one of President Trump’s former associates, a British-born reporter named Rob Goldstone, contacted Donald Trump Jr., offering to supply the Trump campaign team with compromising material on the opposing presidential candidate, Hilary Clinton. Mr. Goldstone was only an intermediary for a senior Russian official, Aras Agalarov, with ties to President Vladimir Putin. When he was hosting the Miss Universe contest in Moscow, Donald Trump became friendly with Mr. Agalarov and his family.

Donald Trump Jr. eagerly responded to his father’s business associate, despite the obvious illegality of the email, which read: “[the information] would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father…This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump.”

“If it’s what you say I love it especially later in the summer,” replied Trump’s eldest son.

After an increasingly suspicious exchange of emails, a meeting between Donald Trump Jr., a “Russian government attorney,” Paul Manafort (Mr. Trump’s campaign manager), and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner (who now works as Senior Advisor to the president), was arranged at Trump Tower, New York. The Russian official who arrived at the meeting was a Russian lawyer and former intelligence operative named Natalia Veselnitskaya.

As pressure mounted, the emails between Donald Trump Jr. and Mr. Goldstone, were voluntarily released by Donald Trump Jr., who tweeted: “To everyone, in order to be totally transparent, I am releasing the entire email chain of my emails.” However, according to the New York Times, Donald Trump Jr. only released his emails after a journalist informed him that the New York Times was planning to publish the information anyway. CNN has also discovered further proof of Trump’s friendship with Russian associates, publishing a 2015 video of Mr. Trump, Mr. Goldstone and the Agalarov family, showing the three mid-conversation at a Las Vegas event.

Prior to releasing the email chain, all members of the Trump family were still denying any contact with Russian associates, especially Russians with ties to the Kremlin. Earlier this year, Donald Trump Jr. slammed the ongoing Russia investigation, saying: “It’s disgusting. It’s so phony.” However, as more and more information continues to emerge, the Trump Administration is finding it increasingly difficult to defend the integrity of the White House and the Trump family.

After releasing the damning emails, Donald Trump Jr. appeared on 'Fox and Friends' and was interviewed by Sean Hannity, where he hinted at remorse, saying: “in retrospect, I probably would have done things a little differently.” According to Donald Trump Jr., the actual meeting at Trump Tower was not very productive and they primarily talked about “a program about the adoption of Russian children.”

Despite the storm of controversy, President Trump has quickly leapt to the defence of his eldest son, tweeting: “My son Donald did a good job last night. He was open, transparent and innocent. This is the greatest Witch Hunt in political history. Sad!”
