Gay Teen’s Mom Claims Michigan Pastor Encouraged Suicide

Matthew Makela, the recently outed anti-gay pastor is now under fire. A mother of a member of his parish has now come forward with information that he encouraged her teenage son, who was gay, to commit suicide. He told the teen that since he was going to wind up in hell, he should just go ahead and kill himself.

This statement emerged after it was reported earlier in the week that the Midland, Michigan pastor used the networking app – Grindr – to chat and solicit sex with other men. The church where Makela worked – until issuing his resignation on Monday – issued a formal statement that urged people not to read anything further regarding Makela or the “sin” he committed.

According to the statement released by St. John’s Lutheran Church, “The details of sin that have been kept confidential are being posted online by those who seek to do harm to the Makela family and to St. John’s.” The statement continued on to read, “This is taking an already difficult situation and making it even more painful. I write this to you to warn you that you may be confronted with details of the sin, and to remind you that sin is never pretty.”

Yet, according to a number of members of the parish, Makela did horrible things and the church and people are better off now that he has left.
