Joe Biden: 'I Don't Believe Putin' - He 'Did Meddle' In Election

President Trump should not trust Vladimir Putin, Joe Biden warned this week.

The former vice president declared on NBC’s “Today” show that he does “not believe Putin at all” when the Russian leader denies his operatives interfered in the 2016 election. “They did meddle (and) he was responsible for it,” Biden said. “I don’t believe Putin and there’s no good reason to believe Putin, in my view. I don’t think any objective person should believe Putin on this score.”

The Daily Mail noted that the ex-veep was responding to Trump’s remarks about his recent conversation with the Kremlin strongman at a summit in Japan. According to the president, Putin assured him that U.S. intelligence agencies were wrong when they accused him of ordering last year’s cyberattacks on the Democratic Party officials. Putin also may have been behind some of the anti-Clinton propaganda that appeared on social media during the White House race, as well as the hacking of U.S. voter-registration systems.

“He said he didn’t meddle. He said he didn’t meddle,” Trump told reporters on Saturday, as he continued his 13-day Asian trip. “I asked him again. You can only ask so many times. Every time he sees me, he says, ‘I didn’t do that.’ And I believe, I really believe, that when he tells me that, he means it. I think he is very insulted by it.”

The president called the Obama administration intelligence officers who pointed the finger at Putin “political hacks.” The next day, he amended his comments, explaining: “I believe that he feels that he and Russia did not meddle in the election. As to whether I believe it or not, I am with our agencies, especially as currently constituted with the leadership.”

Biden criticized the Clinton campaign for not doing enough to appeal to working-class and middle-income voters. “No one can tell me what her position was on the things that affect middle class,” he said. “It’s not on her as a candidate. It’s on the nature of the way the campaign was run.”

The former vice president suggested that Clinton dropped the ball during one of the presidential debates, when moderator Martha Raddatz asked her about the “Access Hollywood” tape in which Trump bragged that he had sexually assaulted women. “You knew Martha Raddatz; she’s a tough reporter, smart as the devil,” Biden said. “You knew she was going to ask the question of Trump about the tape about groping and you knew she was going to turn and say to Hillary, ‘What do you think?’ Well, you know, my argument was you shoulda said everybody knows Donald Trump.”

Biden argued that Clinton should have then shifted the topic to her policy proposals by saying: “Let me tell you about how I’m going to change your life.” However, Biden acknowledged that the Democratic nominee was having a tough time getting her message out because “the nature of the (news) coverage was so intense about everything from (Trump’s) dalliances (to) the alleged impropriety of her emails, that it never got to the issues.”
