Sex And City Star Makes Shocking Announcement

In today’s day and age, all kinds of celebrity names are coming forward to express their opinions. Every once in awhile, there’s actually some pretty big puffs of smoke about one that actually may throw their hat into the political arena. As the New York Daily News explains, that scuttlebutt has been surrounding former ‘Sex and the City’ star Cynthia Nixon for some time now, and she’s responded to the rumors.

Nixon was recently on the ‘Today’ show talking about her new film, “The Only Living Boy in New York.” She’s been rumored as a possible 2018 Democratic primary challenger to current NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and the crew wanted to know what was up with that.

“I have heard those rumors,” Nixon said. “I think there are a lot of people who would like me to run. I think for a variety of reasons, but I think the number one is education.”

She touched on the education topic during a recent interview as well, and it certainly sounds like that’s causing her to seriously mull things over.

“There's a ten thousand dollar gap (between the state’s richest and poorest districts) and that gap is the widest that it has ever been and that is due in part to Gov. Cuomo's policies,” she said. “And that needs to change and parents and teachers across the state are really upset about it, as they should be. That’s a violation of the Constitution and it’s enough already - it’s gotta stop,”

She touched on that during her Today show interview, and she threw some shade on Cuomo’s boasts that the state spends more per pupil than any other state.

“That is actually true but the only reason that is true is because we spend so much on the kids in our wealthier districts, so that evens out," Nixon said.

Cuomo spokesman Richard Azzopardi offered up a polished reply to Nixon’s comments.

“The more people talking about issues that make New York State stronger, the better." Azzopardi said. “We know Ms. Nixon is a passionate advocate for education, and we would be happy to sit down with her anytime to talk about it.”

Cuomo is not the only politician that’s causing Nixon angst. She took the time to address President Donald Trump as well, and she’s pretty ticked off about the commander-in-chief’s recent commentary about transgender military policies.

“It's shameful and I think it's ironic that he did it on the anniversary of the integration of the armed forces - he didn't even realize the irony of what he was doing on the anniversary,” she said. "During the campaign, he said very few things that I could get on board with," she said. "But one of the things that he said that I was really appreciative of was that people should use the bathroom that they feel comfortable using. Well, that seems to have gone out the window, with so many other things."

We’ll have to wait and see if Nixon really makes a go of it in 2018, but it sounds like the Cuomo team may want to polish up its answers on education just in case.
