Donald Trump, blasting the Obama administration’s strategy to defeat terrorist groups, insinuated Monday that “there’s something going on” with the president that is “inconceivable.”
The Republican presidential contender did not explain what he meant by the remark. “People can’t believe it, people cannot believe that President Obama is acting the way he acts and can’t even mention the words ‘radical Islamic terrorism,’” he told Fox News. “He doesn’t get it, or he gets it better than anybody understands. It’s one or the other, and either one is unacceptable.”
Continuing his mysterious line of attack, Trump declared later in the day on NBC: “There are a lot of people who think maybe he doesn’t want to get it. A lot of people think maybe he doesn’t want to know about it.” During a campaign rally Monday afternoon in New Hampshire, Trump accused Obama and apparent Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton of putting “political correctness above common sense, above your safety and above all else.” He called on the president to “step down” and said Clinton should end her White House bid.
Trump made the comments just a day after a gunman murdered 49 people and injured at least 53 others at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Fla. The Hill pointed out that the real-estate mogul has often questioned the president’s religion and nationality. Several years ago, he championed the “birther” movement that claimed Obama was born in Africa.
