Boy Dies From Cheese Allergy After Bully Thrown Piece At Him

One 13-year-old boy is dead and another has been arrested after a school lunchroom incident involving a small piece of cheese. According to reports, one boy 'flicked' a piece of cheese at another in the lunchroom.

The boy who got hit with the cheese on his lips suffered from a deadly allergic reaction and died 12 days later.

The incident happened in the U.K. in William Perkin Church of England High School in West London. A heartbroken father says he had to watch his young son die in a hospital after a silly lunchroom prank gone wrong. The father is demanding answers.

“We were in hospital I had to watch him die, no parent should have to go through that. While he was in hospital we were fully concentrated on his condition. Now we want answers. How could this have happened?" he said.

Karanbir Cheema, 13, known as 'Karan' to his friends, spent 12 days in intensive care after suffering from the allergic reaction. According to initial reports from an anonymous student,

"A boy in the class bought himself a cheese sandwich and another boy asked to have a piece of it. He gave the cheese to him thinking that he would eat it but instead he flicked it at Karan."

Karan seemed fine at first, but eventually complained of feeling ill. He went to the school office to report he thought he was having an allergic reaction.

“He was able to come to the school office to indicate that he thought he was having an extreme reaction and they were able to immediately administer the normal treatment, which was kept in the office for his care. Very, very tragically in this situation this was not effective,” said Alice Hudson, executive headteacher told the Evening Standard.

Hudson noted that Karan "had a full care plan and all the normal steps you would expect with a child with an allergy".

"We provided these medications and they were delivered,” she explained. “Everything that should have been done was done. Very, very tragically in this situation this was not effective.”

There may be more to the story than just an innocent minor food fight, however. A 13-year-old boy was arrested and released on bail. According to other reports, Karan might have been targeted by bullies who were aware of his allergy.

“I heard from a student that a boy came up and put a bit of cheese down his shirt," said a parent. “This bully is old enough to know right from wrong, you just cannot take these chances.”

Karan's mother says she is fuming since finding out that bullies had been targeting her son. "I was not aware that he was bullied by anyone, but that is something I will be asking the school. I want justice for Karan.”

“My son had allergies but he was very careful," said the grieving father in a press conference. "He had an allergy to dairy products but was good at avoiding them. I don't how a piece of cheese hitting him could have killed him, it doesn't make any sense. We have been told very little.”
