Dad Moves Daughter Into New Apartment - Discover Hidden Camera In Bathroom

Surveillance technology used to be expensive, bulky, time-consuming and best left to the experts. As technology gets cheaper and more convenient, more and more perverts are using it for their own personal pleasure.

One dad was horrified when he found out his daughter's apartment was secretly being watched by an unknown person.

John Christopher of Norman, Oklahoma helped his 21-year-old, college-student daughter move into an apartment complex. He never dreamed that she'd be put on display for a sick peeping Tom by using her bathroom, but apparently, that's what was happening.

The girl's boyfriend went into the bathroom, happened to look up, and spotted something odd-looking in the vent.

"I came in here to use the restroom standing right here and for whatever reason, I just happened to look up. And here was a bunch of masking tape," Jeremy Caudill told News Channel 4.

It's a father's nightmare. "You have this vision of your daughter being posted everywhere on the internet, so I'm still freaked out about that," said Christopher.

Equipment was turned over to the police, and an investigation has been launched. Nowadays, though, high-tech peeping Toms don't even have to risk getting caught with wires, or by coming back to retrieve a camera to get the recorded footage.

The camera transmits the video wirelessly, and the footage can be viewed from anywhere.

"What we need to realize in this day and age, it's a $50 camera. It's light and dark images, recorded. It's WiFi. They don't have to be there. This is the kind of technology that's out there and it's very easy to stick in a vent," Christopher said.

Vents aren't even needed. On websites like Amazon.com, you can purchase cameras hidden in electric clocks, smoke detectors, or even wall-mounted clothing hooks.

An unsuspecting person can go into a changing room, bathroom or bedroom thinking they have some privacy, and not even realize that as they change or shower, they’re starring in their own internet porn show. Images and videos are not just reserved for the viewing pleasure of twisted minds who left the surveillance equipment planted; they can be distributed around the world with just the push of a button.

The apartment complex says they had no knowledge of the hidden surveillance camera, and have not had any other complaints. “We have not received any other reports of something similar anywhere here in Norman. This is a new one for us but we are actively looking into it and hope to find some answers pretty quickly," said a spokesperson.

Christopher is now helping his daughter move out of her apartment, and is planning to be very careful about where she moves in the future.

Just as people can purchase secret hidden cameras, it should also be noted there are equally inexpensive and convenient anti-spy devices that will detect hidden cameras and audio equipment. Perhaps concerned residents should make an investment in some of this equipment just to be safe.
