Dad's Photo About His Cart And The Cart Of The Person Next To Him Goes Viral

A man stopped at the grocery store to purchase a few food items and diapers for his family on the little bit left over from his weekly salary. He couldn't help but noticed the two carts full of choice foods that the couple in front of him were buying. When he saw how they paid for their purchase and what they did with it, he realized that there was something very, very wrong.

Patrick Gibson posted two photos to Facebook to show the problem he encountered. "The picture you see on the left is the amount of groceries including diapers that I was able to afford this pay period for my family," he wrote, noting that he paid cash because he works very hard to make a living.

"The picture on the right is of the purchase in front of me in line. If you can't tell in the picture there are 2 full buggies of groceries including such items like steak and some other very nice choices of food," he wrote.

"Here's the kicker. This purchase was made in food stamps," Gibson added.

Gibson says it wasn't just the fact that the couple whipped out an EBT card to pay an $800 grocery bill. It was the fact that the lady moved a wad of cash out of the way in order to find her food stamp card.

It was the fact that the couple both seemed perfectly capable of moving, considering the way they were lifting heavy grocery bags and shuffling them around, and seemed perfectly capable of working. And it was the fact that he later spotted the couple loading the groceries into a brand-new Hyundai Genesis in the parking lot.

"I just thought I would take the time to tell this person/family that you are very welcome from all of us hard working/ struggling to buy food Americans that have to foot the bill for your fancy steak feast while I skip breakfast and lunch every day that way my wife and children have food to eat everyday, because $50-$75 dollars doesn't go very far. So you enjoy your $800 free grocery purchase," Gibson complained.

Many people jumped on to comment that they agreed with Gibson. "I agree with you Patrick 100%. There are a lot that really need it but as you said there are a lot that abuse the system and a lot like yourself that need them and can't get them, especially you and your family," said one commenter.

Most people did agree that food stamps and welfare were meant to help support the bare necessities to those going through hard times, and were never meant to be a lifestyle for those who prefer not to work.

Some complained that Gibson was being too hard on the family, not knowing their story.

"Do you really know their back story. Don't be quick to judge someone cause your [angry]. How do you know if that person works and their spouse doesn't work because of problems. That all the money in their pocket is to pay their bills that the new car was a gift. How do you know that's not the case?" a person commented.

"Well the odds of that being the case in this situation much like many other situations.... I'm pretty sure the chick isn't dying and no one gave her a free damn car. I am sure that hard work people such as myself are giving her a free life though," Gibson said, noting that this couple truly being that down on their luck was unlikely.
