Dad Wondered Why His Autistic Son Was Acting Out At School, So He Hid A Recorder On Him - He Was Shocked By What He Heard

The father of a 10-year-old autistic boy could not figure out why his son was suddenly becoming violent at school. The young boy had always been fairly quiet and never had those problems before, so the father wondered if something was going on at school to set off his son.

He put a recording device in his son's shirt pocket to listen in, and he couldn't believe what he heard the teachers saying.

Stuart Chaifetz wasn't sure what was setting off his son, Akian, and unfortunately Akian didn't have the ability to tell his dad what was happening. The dad was determined to try and figure out how to help his son, who was acting out aggressively at school.

He thought a recording device would help him see what kinds of things Akian was doing all day so he could help the teachers figure out the problem. As it turns out, the teachers were the problem.

Chaifetz says that when he got the recording, he was stunned. For six hours, he heard teachers confronting his son in a hostile way and saying inappropriate things.

Akian sometimes mumbles to himself. “Who are you talking to, nobody?” said one teacher.

“Knock it off,” said the second teacher.

The teachers berated the 10-year-old when he was upset. Instead of calming him down, they made things worse with threats.

“Go ahead and scream because guess what? You’re going to get nothing until your mouth is shut,” one teacher said.

“Shut your mouth.”

One teacher even called the boy a 'bastard'.

During class, right in front of students, the teachers also discussed adult topics. They talked about how the weekend went, getting drunk, and their sexual encounters.

Chaifetz was furious that the teachers were taking advantage of the fact that the kids in Akian's class couldn't report what was going on. He contacted the school to complain, but he was given the run-around and the school didn't deal with the problem to his satisfaction.

That's when he decided to take it to social media.

“You would never get away with talking about your alcohol abuse the night before if this was a mainstream class,” Chaifetz says in the YouTube video.

“And that’s the point, isn’t it? They knew none of those boys could go home and tell their parents that the person who ran that class was under the influence of alcohol and was throwing up.”

In an email to the Huffington Post, Chaifetz said, “That my son’s teacher was not fired and still works in the school district is an outrage I am not willing to allow to pass in silence.... She betrayed my son and caused him great pain. If some union rule or HR regulation has allowed her to keep her job, then the law needs to be changed so that the next time a teacher bullies a child, especially one with special needs, they will be immediately fired."

"For me to do nothing would mean I was treating my son with as much disrespect as they had."

The father is hoping to bring awareness to the problem and get the school to take action. He's been overwhelmed by the support he's gotten.
