Dad Worried Ex-Wife Doesn't Have Food, So He Stocks Her Fridge With Groceries

Being married and raising a family together is difficult, even if you love your spouse dearly and get along. Things can become very difficult if two people grow apart after they get married, and when the relationship ends it only brings on a whole new set of challenges.

That said, in most cases there’s no compelling reason that a couple that decided to divorce can’t be friendly and be an effective co-parenting team. At least one couple says it’s largely a matter of choice.

This is not to say that co-parenting with your ex is always going to be a breeze, at times it will be challenging and maybe even ugly, but contrary to popular belief, it can be done. One good-hearted dad in Florida is getting a great deal of praise online for going above and beyond to help his ex for the sake of their daughter.

Florida dad Brandon Carpenter recently posted on Facebook that he took it upon himself to purchase a few weeks' worth of groceries for his ex-wife when he noticed her refrigerator was nearly empty.

Carpenter had dropped by his ex-wife’s home when she told him his daughter was feeling a bit under the weather. The concerned dad wet to the store and brought over some Tylenol, and while he was there, he saw that refrigerator was nearly bare. She had lots of baby food, formula and snacks for their daughter, but not a lot of food for herself.

When Carpenter saw this, he hopped in his car and went straight back to the store. He loaded up the cart and purchased a couple of bags worth of groceries for his ex. He certainly didn’t have to do that. His ex didn’t ask him to do it. He could have just walked away, comfortable that the baby was taken care of, without worrying about his former wife.

But Carpenter just couldn’t let the mother of his child suffer, so he felt had to step in and help her out. Talk about a team player, that is one great guy.

He snapped a photo of the receipt, which listed lunch meat, hot pockets, milk, eggs, fruit and vegetables-- all the staples any person would need to get their three square meals per day.

"Just because we aren't together doesn't mean I can't provide for her if she needs it," Brandon explained in his FB post. "If my child’s mother is good then I know she is taking care of our daughter the best she can and that makes me happy."

Brandon's post went viral, and has been shared over 160,000 times. Nearly all of the comments on the post are positive, saying that Brandon a "good man" and that he is being a positive role model for his daughter.

When two parents can put aside their ego and their petty differences like that to put the children first, and treat each other with common courtesy and respect, it’s not just best for the child. It’s best for everyone all-around.

Unfortunately, not all parents are able to go above their own selfish feelings to think of the kids first, and because of that, they end up creating a lot of misery and suffering for the whole family. They’re not just hurting their ex, their child, or even their ex’s new family—they’re hurting themselves, stirring up years of stress and aggravation.
