Diner Owner Won't Apologize for Yelling at Customer's Child

The owner of Marcy's Diner in Maine, Portland could not manage her patience and finally yelled at a toddler crying for 40 minutes. Darla Neugebauer said the girl's parents ordered her three full-sized pancakes then pushed it out of her reach. Neugebauer said, 'I slammed my hands on the counter and I said "this needs to stop" - meaning her screaming - and I pointed at her and she looked at me and she stopped. And her parents said, "Are you screaming at a child?"'

Tara Carson, the child's mother said “I think I was just in shock because I've never seen behavior like this before and we're like 'Are you really yelling at a child right now?' And she's like "Yes, I am. She needs to shut the hell up and go."

Carson added 'The look of fear in my daughter's face when this woman was yelling at her...she looked at me like 'Mommy why is this woman doing this to me?' And I felt helpless as a mom that I couldn't do anything to help her. I can't explain why there is crazy people in this world that behave like that.”

After the incident, Carson posted a review on Facebook saying "I had the worst experience at this establishment." Neugebauer responded by writing “You are lucky I didn't get really f****** nuts because being physical is not something I cower from.”

When Neugebauer was asked if she was sorry she said she wasn't and “Life's full of choices and you gotta live with all of them. I chose to yell at the kid. It made her shut up which made me happy, it made my staff happy, it made the other 75 people in the restaurant happy. And they left, they may never come back. Other people may not come back in. Their loss really.”
