DNA Test Claims Woman Is Not The Mother Of Her Children - Makes An Even More Shocking Discovery

For a while now, DNA testing has been considered infallible. Countless court cases, from criminal to paternity tests, have been settled by DNA. A new rare genetic condition discovered by doctors shows that even with DNA testing, there is a margin for error.

Lydia Fairchild and her boyfriend Jamie Townsend split up. Fairchild was pregnant with the couple's third child at the time and applied for welfare benefits. The family was required to take DNA tests as part of a standard procedure.

Townsend's DNA matched their two born children, but Fairchild was shocked to find that her DNA was not a match. The DNA test excluded her as the mother of the children.

She was shocked - she went through nine months of pregnancy for each child. She knew she did not have IVF, and that both babies had not been switched at birth.

One last option that authorities had to consider was that Fairchild abducted someone else's babies. The mother was terrified because the Department of Children and Families threatened to take her children away.

When her third baby was born, Fairchild was closely monitored. Again, DNA results came back showing no match. It was a mystery.

A similar case emerged. A woman across the country took a DNA test and found she did not match her two grown sons. A doctor finally figured out the cause. It's been dubbed Chimera syndrome.

Chimera syndrome occurs when two embryos fuse together in the womb to become one person. This can result in a person having two different sets of DNA - one in the blood, and one in some tissue.

Keegan had her DNA tested from several different places in her body. The DNA from her thyroid gland matched the DNA of her sons, even though her blood DNA did not.

The cases of Keegan and Fairchild have created some questions about DNA. In rare cases, people with Chimera syndrome could be ruled out in paternity, rape or murder cases if the wrong DNA is tested.
