Domestic Violence Victim Bravely Speaks Out Against Thug Who Battered Her

One victim of domestic violence was so badly beaten by her ex-boyfriend that she suffered numerous physical injuries, as well as post-traumatic stress disorder. The boyfriend has been trying to paint himself as the victim in the relationship, complaining that if he went to prison he would lose his 'good job'. The victim is not staying silent.

Antony Griffiths and Clare Wilson had been in a relationship for several years. In 2016, the young woman decided she was very unhappy in the relationship and tried to move out. She never expected her ex to brutally attack her.

The 27-year-old man was furious at Wilson and he kicked her in the arms and ribs. At the time, the frightened woman decided not to press charges.

Wilson would occasionally meet up with Griffiths for the next few months. One night they went out for drinks. He ran out of the pub to go to his nearby apartment to use the bathroom. Wilson left the pub with her sister.

Griffiths texted Wilson to ask if he could spend the night with her. She didn't respond, so he went back to the pub.

Wilson missed Griffiths at his apartment. When she got there, he was already gone. She went back to the pub, where Griffiths confronted her. The two ended up outside having a heated argument. According to a witness, 'upsetting and distressing' words flew between the two.

Wilson tried to leave to go back to her sister's home, but Griffiths followed her.

“You followed her down the road. I’m prepared to accept when you did so your intention was to smooth things over with her, no doubt you hoped she would be prepared to sleep with you that night," said the judge. "You wanted to stop her getting to her sister’s and managed to get ahead of her just before she arrived at her sister’s address, standing between her and her sister’s front door... You became frustrated that she was too upset and distressed to listen to what you had to say."

“As she sighed in front of you, turning her head to her right, she exposed her left cheek to you," the judge continued, describing the scene. “In a flash of temper you delivered to her a very serious punch.”

The punch knocked Wilson down to the ground and cracked her eye socket. She had to have reconstructive surgery and has metal plates in her face due to the injuries. She hasn't been able to go back to work due to the pain she suffered and an inability to open her jaw. She also suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Griffiths says he did not punch Wilson in the face. He says he used a 'jujitsu-stye' move in defense because Wilson attacked him. He was unable to prove this in court, however.

Griffiths was sentenced to 2 and a half years in prison, which he is appealing because he fears he’ll lose his job over the sentence.
