Family Adopts Two Children - The Next Day, Their Home Was Vandalized

A family in Illinois was shocked to wake up one morning and find their home and cars had been vandalized. While having your personal belongings destroyed is bad enough, what made it worse were the offensive messages written about their daughters.

The family decided to use the unfortunate incident to raise awareness about their little girls.

The Hollis family was shocked when they woke up one morning to find words like 'RETARDS' and 'Get outta here' painted on the side of their home and vehicles. Mom Anne says they were attacked because they had just adopted two daughters with Down Syndrome.

Anne and the family refused to take the horrible attack lying down. The family's two sons stood up for their sisters. The boys, ages 6 and 7, wanted to make a video to tell people about their sisters, and why the word 'retard' is completely unacceptable in today's society.

Mom and dad were happy to help with that video. The family began the 'Everyone Matters' initiative. The family made the beautiful video to show that the Hollis girls are really no different from anyone else.

"our sisters are NOT Retards!" read messages held up by the young boys. They then tore the word 'retard' in half.

"Will you help us spread the word to end the word?" read another set of messages.

This family knows how to turn lemons into lemonade.
