Girl Acts Courageously - Saves Her Mother’s Life

A woman in Louisiana was suffering a horrible ordeal when a man she knew began holding her hostage. The woman managed to get help by writing a note to her daughter's teacher.

When the teacher got the note, the school contacted authorities. The mother was freed and her boyfriend was arrested.

An unnamed woman living in a trailer reported that an acquaintance came to her home and wouldn't let her leave. Donald Ray Guy, a 27-year-old friend of the family, showed up at the rural home in Clinton a couple of weeks earlier. For two weeks, he held the woman hostage and she was terrified.

When the woman's 11-year-old daughter was leaving for school one morning, the mother managed to pass on a note for the girl's teacher. The teacher at East Feliciana Middle School got the note and notified the school administrators, who promptly called police by 8 a.m.

"It’s very alarming when a student shows up with a note asking for help," said Sheriff Jeff Travis. "She needed someone to get her out of the situation and she couldn't talk on the phone."

The note wasn't very specific, but police cautiously moved in. They sent a K-9 unit and chase team to the trailer and knocked on the door. No one answered.

Travis left and returned to the home later with a warrant. The girl's mother was found inside of the trailer with two of Guy's relatives. Guy was found hiding in a closet.

Guy had already had three outstanding warrants in East Feliciana and East Baton Rouge parishes. He had failed to appear for a trial in which he was being charged with aggravated battery and domestic abuse battery in the presence of a child. He was also wanted for a car theft.

He's added a new list of charges to his old ones. He's being charged with false imprisonment and domestic abuse battery. According to the police, they also found a stolen ATV at the scene, and Guy may face charges for that as well.

Police found other items in the home that may have been stolen or illegal, but they’re not commenting on the nature of those items publicly at this time. It’s possible there are more things involved with which Guy can be charged.

Women in a domestic hostage situation have to get brave and creative sometimes and send for help. Though they fear being caught and angering the person keeping them hostage, the alternative could be even more tragic.

One clever woman managed to get help when her boyfriend was holding her and her children hostage at gunpoint. She convinced him to let her order a pizza online so they could all eat, and in the instructions box she told the pizza parlor that she was in a hostage situation and that they should call for help.

Instead of a pizza, the company sent police to the home. The Florida woman credits Pizza Hut with saving her life.
