Girl Saved From Terrible Fate Thanks To Observant Taxi Driver

One UK taxi driver is a hero because he was observant enough to realize his young passenger was doing something very dangerous. The teen had snuck off to meet an older man she met on the internet. What the young girl didn't know was that she had been groomed by a dangerous pedophile who had intentions of raping her.

Satbir Arora owns the small taxi business with his wife. He got a call to go to a home on Oxfordshire and bring someone to Gloucester train station. A young teen girl got into the car, and Mr. Arora became suspicious.

Arora tried to find out if the girl's parents knew where she was going. The young girl wouldn't answer. This aroused the taxi drivers suspicions even more.

The girl began calling someone she was meeting on her cell phone. Arora began making recordings of the calls. Eventually, before dropping the girl off, he called his wife. The girl agreed to talk to Mrs. Arora on the phone.

Mrs. Arora chatted with the young girl and the child admitted her parents did not know where she was. She admitted she was meeting a man she met on the internet. The wife called the police, and her husband flagged down a local officer he spotted.

The would-be victim was set to meet Sam Hewings, a 24-year-old man she met online. Police investigated and discovered that Hewings used online chat software to discuss his plans of kidnapping, sedating and raping girls with other pedophiles.

"Online chat logs presented to Gloucester Crown Court revealed Hewings’ pedophilic tendencies and showed he had discussed kidnapping, sedating and raping a victim. When police arrested him at his home they found a rucksack containing knives, duct tape and cocodamol tablets," said a spokesperson for the authorities.

Recordings made by Arora that day in the cab were entered into evidence at the trial. Hewings was convicted and has been sentenced to five years in prison for attempted abduction, and for making and distributing indecent images.

"Satbir Arora was presented with a certificate for outstanding achievement in safeguarding, by Councillor Kieron Mallon, the lead member for public protection," said the spokesperson.

"I can’t praise Mr. Arora enough for his caring attitude and for recognizing that his passenger was in grave danger," said Mallon. "He saved his passenger from an unthinkable ordeal, and had the presence of mind to record his calls with the would-be kidnapper, providing crucial evidence to the prosecution service. He has clearly put his safeguarding training into action and I hope he displays his certificate in a place of pride in his vehicle."

More and more child abduction and trafficking agencies are looking to train people who work on the road to spot potential victims in transit. In the U.S., training has begun for truck drivers and gas station attendants. Arora took the training and it paid off in a big way, as that one little girl could have been seriously harmed or killed.
