National Women’s History Month is the time to celebrate the continued contributions of women to society, history and the world. While some of the names here may be familiar to you, there is likely some information you never knew about these extraordinary women.

Rosa Parks

At the age of 92, when Rosa Parks passed away, she was taken to the U.S. capitol where she received a tribute that no other woman had ever received. She is the first woman to lie in the capitol, which is an honor typically reserved for military leaders and statesmen.

Sonia Sotomayor

She is the first Latina and third woman to serve on the Supreme Court, but she also knew she was going to practice law since she was 10 years old.

Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe became the third woman ever to begin a production company in the U.S., which was Marilyn Monroe Productions in 1955. However, she not only fought for her own career, she also helped other women in the industry.

Gloria Steinem

While this woman activist had a strong stance that she would never get married, she changed her mind in 2000 and tied the knot. However, she stated that marriage had changed, not her.

Oprah Winfrey

There isn't any question Winfrey is an accomplished woman, but her life of accomplishment began at a young age. She learned to read by the age of three and was skipped to the first grade after one day in Kindergarten.
