Jessica Simpson Under Fire For Sharing Image Of Young, Bikini-Clad Daughter

There has long been a debate about social media, and just how much of their children parents should publicly share. After all, that nude baby on the bearskin rug might be considered absolutely adorable by friends and family, but it could also end up in the file of some sick pervert running a child pornography ring.

One singer shared bathing suit shots of her 5-year-old daughter, and Instagram rushed to criticize.

Jessica Simpson made waves with recent photos of her 5-year-old daughter, Maxwell Drew, having some summer fun in the backyard. The little girl posed playfully for photos in a frilly rainbow bikini. Many critics rushed to call out Simpson for posting 'inappropriate' photos.

“Too much too soon. Not cool in a world filled with perves!” exclaimed one commenter who didn't approve.

Another mother tried to break the warning to Simpson more gently. "I just read an article about predators using innocent photos like this and photoshopping them for their disturbing use and circulating them to their ‘friends,'” she wrote. “Those are the ones best left in our photo albums.”

Not everyone agrees with the worry warts, though. One Instagram user told naysayers that it was none of their business. "If she’s comfortable with her daughter wearing that particular bathing suit then it’s no one’s right to judge her,” she said.

Another Instagram user gave critics a little reality check. “To everyone warning Jessica Simpson that people will sexualize her daughter because of this picture, that’s exactly what you’re doing,” she commented. “She’s a child. See this for what it is: a picture of a child having fun. If you’re worried for her safety then teach your kids about consent and discuss how outfits and presentation don’t imply consent to engage in sexual behavior with anyone.”

Simpson isn't the first person shamed for sharing beach and pool photos of her daughter on social media. Christina El Moussa, 'Flip or Flop' star, posted a picture of her daughter and herself in matching bathing suits, and many slammed her for the photo.

El Moussa brushed it off: "It's Cali people it's what we do."

Many parents worry about keeping their settings to private so that only carefully vetted friends and family are able to see photos they share of their children. For celebrities, social media is an entirely different issue.

The world is inevitably watching, and these kids are already under a microscope. If the family goes on vacation, photos taken by others are going to go viral.

Ironically, there has yet to be an uproar about parents sexualizing their sons by posting shirtless shots by the pool. Those ‘perverts’ do go after young boys as well, and it’s equally a problem; however, moms and dads get a pass if it’s their sons shown enjoying fun in the sun with them for some reason.

No one thinks it’s bad parenting if they flash the flesh of sons around the pool or on the beach. The double standard is staggering.
