Man Furious After Noticing Couple Leave Baby In Booth While At The Buffet

A clip showing a baby being left unattended at a Chinese buffet posted on Facebook has led to controversy, with some criticizing both the parents and the busybody who filmed the incident.

Shannon Culley, a resident of Sandusky, Ohio, was dining at a Chinese buffet restaurant recently when he noticed a couple get up from their booth and leave their baby in a carrier while they went to get food.

Culley began to film at that, and claimed the pair were gone for four minutes when he posted the video to his Facebook.

The video received more than 4 million views within a couple of days, and was noticed by police.

According to local media sources, the Perkins Township Police Department launched an investigation into whether the video is proof of child endangering.

“Can we say because the parent walked out of the screen shot of this video and left the child unattended in the booth that there was a significant risk of injury to that child? I'm not sure we can,” Chief Ken Klamar explained to the media.

The mom of the baby alleges that the video was taken trying to keep her out of the frame, and that she was always in eyeshot of the booth.

“She alleges the person who took it intentionally moved the camera, if you will, in a way that she wouldn't be seen on it to make it look worse than what it was,” Klamar noted.

Some viewers also called into question Culley’s motives in filming in the first place, saying he shouldn’t be nosing into the parenting of others.

Culley eventually took the clip down from Facebook, but the online debate continued to rage.

It has not been determined if charges will be brought against the parents, but in what seems like an over-reaction, Erie County Children Services is opening an investigation into the incident.
