Getting a pedicure can be a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of a fast-paced life--that's what Darryl Carr might have thought. On November 13, 2014, Darryl received a pedicure from Happy Nails in Chicago, Illinois. What resulted is Darryl contracted an infection that led him to lose his leg and then his life. The widow of victim Darryl Carr, Latania Peterson-Carr, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against AZ Happy Nails in Sauk Village. The lawsuit states that his feet were soaked in hot water and a chemical solution, followed by a hot wax solution.
Allegedly, the solutions were contaminated and Darryl's left foot soaked for an excessive amount of time. Darryl suffered "serious burns" to his left foot and leg, which led to an infection where an amputation had to be performed. Due to medical complications, after the amputation, Darryl lost his life on June 4. The staff did not determine whether Darryl was at risk for an allergic reaction or if he had an underlying medical condition that put his health at risk by receiving the pedicure. Darryl is survived by his wife and two children, ages 10 and 13. A minimum of $50,000 is sought in the wrongful death suit.
