Man Realizes His Wife Has A Dark Secret When He Discovered Hidden Checks Worth $90K

A woman in Iowa has been sentenced to a year and a half in federal prison for faking a child to bilk almost $100,000 from a former lover.

According to the court order, 34-year-old Johna Loreen Vandemore is also required to pay restitution to the victim, who she had a relationship with back in 2007. Court documents show the two met through a dating website and only dated a few times.

But shortly after they ended the relationship, Vandemore told the victim she was pregnant with his child.

The naïve man agreed to send monthly $1,000 payments to a post office box, and even included extra cash for holidays and birthdays. Court records show the man made over 90 payments over a six-year period.

Vandemore even gave the “father” fake medical records and a fake birth certificate from a non-existent hospital. She would send him pics of her cousin’s daughter, saying it was their child.

However, Vandemore’s husband eventually found out about the monthly checks, but she told him it was commissions from a nutritional products company.

Vandemore filed a guilty plea and could have been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Attorney Donovan Robertson argued that Vandemore truly did believe she was pregnant at one point, which is why she first began asking for payments.
