Mom Praises Son's Dad For Not Paying Child Support, Encourages Others To Follow

A Florida woman made a post on Facebook praising her ex, who she says doesn't pay child support and doesn't need to. According to the woman, she and her baby daddy have decided to peacefully co-parent, and they don't need any pesky little court-orders or legal agreements to get in the way of their collaboration.

Jessica Singleton, 22, probably never expected her post to go viral, but shortly after writing it, it had been shared more than 130,000 times. Apparently, the topic hit a nerve with a lot of people — some praising Jessica, and some warning her that she was going to be sorry some day.

"This is a man who doesn't pay a dime through the state because when my son needs new clothes, I just call him," Singleton writes about her ex Jon Megason, father of her son Pierson.

She continues: "This is a man who buys a bundle of kids' movies on Vudu so even I can enjoy them with my son in my own home. A man who drops off the $45 box of pull-ups at my front door so I don't have to load him up and go to the store."

Singleton explains how she can rely on Megason for whatever she needs: movies to watch with the baby, a babysitter on short notice, or even just a shoulder to cry on. She says the two made a conscious choice when they split to put Pierson's needs first.

"Stop giving excuses and come together for your children," she tells other single parents.

Many praise Singleton and Megason for being able to maintain a peaceful co-parenting relationship. After hearing so many disastrous break-up stories, it's inspiring to hear that there's another way.

Not everyone thinks this arrangement is the wisest choice, however. Pierson is only two years old right now; in time, the two parents may indeed run into some disagreements, or find themselves having conflicting plans.

Without some kind of court-ordered protection, Singleton can find herself in a difficult situation.

The young mother won't hear of criticism, however. She feels she and her ex have figured it out, and they're sticking to their plan.

Singleton concluded her post with a message to her ex: "In case I haven't told you lately, I'm grateful for you. Most importantly for the motivated individual you are and how you provide Pierson with a phenomenal role model despite the foundation you once had. I love the amount of love my son will always have from you."
