Mom Texts Boss Her Son Is In The Hospital, Boss Tells Her To Quit

A woman was suffering from a major family crisis when her 18-year-old son was rushed to the hospital. Doctors put him on life support, and even though the mother was terrified, she took a moment to contact her boss to let them know at work what was going on. She couldn't believe how the manager responded.

Crystal Reynolds Fisher's son was sick with a mysterious illness, and things were quickly going downhill. Once the young man was put on life support, Fisher contacted work. She wasn't scheduled for two more days, but wanted to let them know in advance to find someone to cover her shift.

She texted her manager and wrote, "Hi Dawn this is Crystal, I'm just letting u know my son is still on life support so until he is out of the bad I will not be able to make it to work, I can let u know as he starts to get better so that way I can return to work with no problems."

Dawn, the manager at PS Food Mart in Albion, Michigan, responded rather coldly to the mother's texts.

"That isn't how we do things, so I'll accept that you're quitting," she wrote.

Crystal was shocked. Considering the trauma she was facing, she didn't expect such a cold response. She insisted that she wasn't quitting, but Dawn told her that if she doesn't come to work it is as good as quitting.

Dawn complained that she'd been 'more than accommodating' by allowing schedule changes when the crisis hit. "There is no reason you can't work and I will not tolerate drama," Dawn wrote. "End of conversation."

"Ok this is not an eye doctors app or a dentist app this is my child's life that we r talking about, he is on life support!!! Ok I will be in contact with corporate!! I never quit my job!!!" Fisher shot back.

Dawn went on to boast that she would work through the tragedy because she had bills to pay. She kept insisting if Fisher didn't show up, she would be fired. She even gave Fisher the number to corporate.

Fisher was horrified and vented on Facebook, posting the texts to social media. Most people could not believe the responses she got from her manager.

Corporate, as it turns out, sided with Fisher. “We investigated and have found that the situation was handled improperly and without the compassion that we value as a company. For that, we are very sorry," said a statement from PS Foods. "As a result of this finding, we took quick action and that manager is no longer employed by PS Food Mart. We have also reaffirmed to our employee that she will be able to take all the time off that she needs during this difficult period.”

When Fisher was asked if she had anything to say to her former boss, she responded, "I pray for you, I pray for you. That’s all I can say.”

PS Food got hundreds of comments regarding the situation.

"I liked your page simply on how y’all handle the situation, good job. No parent that is grieving should be put in a position where they’re force to choose between their hospitalized child and work and for that manager to do that to her was absurd," one commenter said.

"Thank you PS Food Mart for backing your employees and doing what is right, business wise and ethically," said another.

"Let's hope the company will help support her pay bills or even start a go fund me page," one person suggested.
