A man from Missouri was arrested in South Dakota on Tuesday morning as a suspect in the Sunday night road-rage killing of a 22-year-old mother.
Christopher Taylor was apprehended by law enforcement in Box Elder, South Dakota on charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action relating to the death of Whitney Gray in independence, Missouri.
Court documents note that police responded to a shooting in Independence Sunday evening and found the mother-of-two suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Apparently Gray had been driving a minivan carrying her two sons (an eight-month-old and a three-year-old) as well as a 16-year-old relative, when Christopher Taylor shot her “apparently due to road rage,” according to a press release from the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.
The documents show Taylor was closely following Gray's vehicle as she drove north on Sterling Avenue, and at one point tried to pass her, almost causing a wreck.
Shortly thereafter, witnesses reported someone threw a drink or liquid from Gray's vehicle onto Taylor’s white Toyota Sequoia. A few moments later a loud pop like a gunshot was heard.
Gray was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was hurt the incident.
Surveillance video that showed Whitney Gray's minivan and a large white SUV following led the police to Taylor
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help with Whitney Gray's funeral expenses, and for her two children. More than $3,300 in donations have been pledged so far.
