Officer Pulls Woman Over For A Broken Headlight, Helps Change Bulb Instead Of Giving A Fine

A small-town Kentucky police officer takes his job very seriously. The officer recently went out of his way to do a good deed on the side of a highway, and a post describing his actions became a huge hit on Facebook.

Officer Adrian McKinney noticed that motorist Lee Riley Freeman had a headlight out, so he pulled her over.

While normally a broken headlight is punishable by a fine, the officer decided to take a much different approach to the situation.

When he walked up, Freeman told the cop that the replacement bulb was in the glove compartment, but that they had no luck in finding anyone who knew how to replace the light bulb.

Instead of just writing up a ticket, Mckinney asked Freeman to pop open the hood of her car and give her the replacement bulb.

Freeman’s post explained what happened next: "I just got pulled over because my head light was out. I told Officer Adrian McKinney that I had the replacement bulb in my car for it, but couldn't find anyone to get it out."

"He asked me to get it and show him, then asked me to pop my hood. He fought with the headlight for at least 15-20 minutes but he was handier than a pocket on a shirt and fixed it for me! It was hot, muggy and dark," the post continues.

"He also ended up with burned fingers trying to help me out. He didn't have to change it for me. He could have written me a ticket. But he took an oath to protect and serve, and he did just that tonight. Thank you Officer McKinney!" writes Freeman at the end of her post.

The Facebook post about the cop’s good deed has been shared 190,000 times to date.
