Police Issue Warning - If You See A $100 Bill On Your Windshield Don't Grab It

As the holiday season approaches, police across the country are beginning public outreach campaigns to prevent holiday scams and rip-offs. In particular, law enforcement agencies are warning drivers about a carjacking scam that popped up last year involving a $100 on a car’s windshield.

Note that this scam was first heard about last Christmas. It works because people in the holiday spirit who see a $100 bill on their windshield might think it is a stranger spreading holiday cheer.

However, it almost certainly is not.

Police say the scam works like this:

You return from the mall or Wal-Mart and get in your car, and then you notice a $100 bill under your wiper on your windshield when you get in and start the car (most people don’t notice $100 until after car started when focusing on driving).

Of course, you open your door to get out of your car to grab the money and the scammer jumps into the driver seat of your car and takes off.

Then the carjackers take off in your car. Police say that this $100 bill carjacking scam has been reported in Las Vegas, Maryland and several cities on the East Coast.

So, if you see a $100 bill on your windshield, just drive off. Do not make the mistake of getting out of your car and don’t stop even if someone rushes your car.

Keep driving until you are far away or see a police officer. If you see a $100 on a car windshield, you should report it to your local police department as soon as possible.
