Romantic Dinner Turns Into Robbery When Man Steals Woman's Card And Computer

When you’re dating someone for the first time, most people want to listen to the other person describe their interests, their passions and their hobbies. However, there is a select group of people that use date nights to prey upon other people’s trust.

In this case, a man from New York City has used his skills as a smooth talker to abscond with his date’s laptop, an expensive MacBook computer, and steal away her credit card. A report from the New York Daily News identifies the cowardly thief as Antonio Ruiz, who took his new partner on a dinner date in Staten Island.

At some point during the otherwise normal date, Mr. Ruiz obtained his unnamed partner’s laptop and credit card, slipping them into his backpack while his date visited the bathroom. New York police officers have not released any more information about the woman, or how they met, or when the man’s duplicitous actions were discovered.

However, a report on Fox News claims that the woman only realized that she had lost her laptop and credit card when she began noticing unknown transactions on her credit card account.

The incident was first reported by the official Twitter account for CBS News, which uploaded a CCTV still-shot of the slimy criminal along with the caption: “You hope your date will steal your heart, not your credit card. But that's what one woman says happened to her in New York City.”

According to CBS, after the man had stolen his date’s credit card, he offered to pay for the meal. Unsurprisingly, the thief had no interest in using his own money to pay for the expensive meal, using his date’s credit card to complete the transaction. It remains unclear if the unnamed woman was aware of this charge at the time.

Although he has been caught on camera numerous times, police have very little information about Mr. Ruiz’s identity and criminal history. Speaking to CBS, a NYPD investigator revealed that the man is aged between 30 and 40 years old, and appears to be Hispanic.

A spokesperson for the New York City Police Department has asked the public to help authorities identify Mr. Ruiz. If you can provide any information about his identity, age, or whereabouts, contact the Crime Stoppers Hotline for the NYPD at the following number: 1-800-577-TIPS.

Although many online commenters have expressed disgust at the despicable actions of Mr. Ruiz, dozens more social media users appear to be dubious about the entire course of events.

“This "HAS" to be FAKE news!” began ‘TonyM56 on Fox. “The man took her credit card AND laptop, yet she didn't discover any theft until after she determined there were illegal credit card charges?

Also, the police "couldn't confirm" which restaurant; but supposedly the main paid for the restaurant date charges, with the credit card of the victim? Wouldn't the police have a copy of the restaurant charge slip, SHOWING which restaurant it was?”

Another user, Basedonlogic, quickly agreed, writing: “She became aware of the theft after noticing the charges on her card? When did she realize her laptop was missing? Something is amiss here.”
