Inappropriate Dress For Toddlers Leaves Parents Shocked And Concerned

Parents around the world have been left shocked by a children’s dress, emblazoned with the phrase “I’m Sexy and I Know It”, that promotes the sexualization of women. The dress in question, a white polka dot top and black tulle skirt, was first seen on the Australian retail store and online shopping club ‘Ozsale’.

The description for the controversial dress suggests that it is suitable for children aged 3 to 4 years.

The oversexualizing dress became a viral story after a screenshot of the product was posted to a Facebook group, ‘Let Clothes be Clothes’, that espouses conservative clothing values. After this initial upload, the dress began circulating across social media platforms and online forums.

Many online commenters believe that the product’s description – which reads “This is an example of beautifully designed clothing for your little one,” – reflects the oversexualization of children in modern society.

This is what the original poster wrote after uploading a photo of the dress: “Sent by a supporter in Australia… Is this THE worst item of clothing on sale to 3-year-olds, in the world?…Very very concerning.”

Social media users were equally disturbed, with one Facebook user writing: “Can’t believe anyone even suggested this, let alone it being approved, made, stocked and (I can only presume) bought by anyone!”

“WTAF?????? Who in God’s name thought this was a suitable item for a small child??” wrote another disgusted parent, later adding: “This is disgusting. I don’t even have words.”

Other commenters pointed out that dresses like this are part of a broader and more worrying trend of sexualizing children in society.

“We sexualize little girls and then wonder at the problems women face in terms of image, Self-esteem, self-worth, equality in the workplace, victims of misogyny etc etc etc,” they wrote. “And I have to blame the parents who actually buy stuff like this or allow their children to wear it.”

As the story received greater online traction, The Sun reached out to Ozsale to respond to the controversy. At this stage, The Sun is yet to receive a reply from the Australian retailer.

The oversexualization of young children isn’t just a problem in clothing design. Media reports on child actors regularly revolve around their physical appearance and demeanor. In fact, 27-year-old model, Ali Michael, recently landed in hot water for her suggestive Instagram comments about 14-year-old ‘Stranger Things’ star Finn Wolfhard.

"Not to be weird but hit me up in 4 years @finnwolfhardofficial,” wrote the model, prompting a torrent of criticism from other Instagram users.

In the wake of the controversy, Ms. Michael penned a groveling apology, writing: "It was never my intention (nor has it ever been) to sexualize a minor in any way shape or form. To those I offended or misled, I apologize for a post made in haste and lacking in sensitivity, particularly considering the landscape of the present culture."

In an offhand comment to TMZ, Wolfhard addressed the incident, saying: "Oh that was nuts. That was gross. That's good that she apologized, it's weird but... it's fine."
