Teen's School Outfit Slammed As Too Provactive - Do You Have A Problem With It?

Like them or not, dress codes exist for a reason. Outside of the most rebellious among us, most folks will do their best to respect standards that are made clear. However, some seriously head-scratching judgement calls still get made in regards to dress code standards, and that makes many question the practice as a whole. That’s what’s going on in the wake of what this student shared on social media. She shared a photo of an outfit she wore that was deemed to be ‘too provocative.’

As Yahoo shares, there doesn’t appear to be anything provocative about it whatsoever. Hannah Whitley wore an outfit inspired by one of her favorite celebrities, Zendaya, and there was absolutely nothing revealing or incendiary about the outfit.

“The outfit, a sleeveless striped shirt and high-waisted ankle-length palazzo pants paired with flats, closely mimicked Zendaya’s original — a short-sleeve striped shirt paired with a yellow overall top tucked inside bright, high-waisted palazzos, complemented with towering heels,” Yahoo reports.

The teen was popped for a dress code violation, and she uploaded a photo of the two outfits side by side to demonstrate what a ridiculous call her school made.

“When you just wanna look like @Zendaya but you get a dress code violation for being too provocative, #senioryearblues,” she wrote.

Other users were quick to offer up their support.

“Those wrists might strike a young man’s fancy. He couldn’t concentrate! Better add a scarf and gloves!” shared one commenter.

“Seriously! Schools need to worry about educating!” another said, with others chiming in, “It really is a slap in the face to guys. They’re basically saying that males in the school are like cave men and can’t control themselves." Another said, “I definitely missed where she’s provocative. Keep your head up baby girl. Your style rocks, continue to be you and change the world.”

Plenty of other users chimed in with words of encouragement, albeit with a different spin on things.

“Twirl on em sis!! You look amazing and they're just mad baby girl. Have a great school year. Finish strong,” shared one user.

“Omgg noo she's showing elbows,” added another commenter.

“Too provocative? What's provocative about this fit?” chimed in another user.

The whole series of posts gained a ton of traction, and Zendaya herself would hop on to offer up her thoughts for the stunned teen.

“Provocative....where??? You look amazing,” Zendaya wrote.

“thank you so much for helping me to turn lemons into lemonade,” Hannah responded.

No word on whether the school has seen the error of its ways, but at least the teen knows she’s not going crazy by thinking her outfit was fine. What schools that make judgement calls such as this one seem to miss is that they open up the whole dress code for debate by flagging outfits that there’s nothing wrong with. If there’s a specific complaint or problem, make it clear to the student so they understand, and also give them an opportunity to correct it without embarrassing them in front of their peers.
