Waitress Accidentally Drops Something In Police Officer's Drink - Gets Arrested And Fired

A Tennessee waitress has been fired, arrested, faces jail time, and lost her expensive drugs. It all happened after she made a terrible mistake.

She dropped some coke into a glass and served it to a customer. Normally, that might sound like a run-of-the-mill event at a busy restaurant, but this wasn't Coca-Cola.

This was cocaine. To make matters worse, unfortunately for the waitress, the customer she was serving was a cop.

Jekievea Monchell Yearby, who was working as a waitress at the Steak & Shake restaurant in Hixson, was caught off guard when police arrested her. On Thursday, the Chattanooga resident was working her night shift around 11 p.m. when she dropped a small bag of cocaine into a customer's water glass.

The customer, an off-duty cop, noticed the odd little bag and fished it out. He immediately recognized the contents as narcotics.

The officer reported the incident and reviewed the restaurant's surveillance footage to verify who dropped the drugs. The officer was sitting at the table with a water glass in front of him, hear the edge.

Yearby approached and pulled out her receipt pad to take his order, and flipped it open. The little bag of cocaine had been tucked in the pad, and she either forgot about it or didn’t realize she disturbed it.

The small bag tumbled from the pad and into the water glass without the waitress even realizing what she’d lost.

There is no information about whether the police officer drank any of the water or not, but he did find it in there. Shake & Steak refused to release the surveillance footage.

Police arrested Yearby, who admitted the cocaine belonged to her. Details about the arrest are unclear, but in addition to being charged with controlled substance possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, she was also charged with assault.

Yearby later reported to police she was carrying more cocaine in her bra. According to Fox 17 News, Yearby was carrying approximately 0.7 grams of cocaine that night. She insisted to News Channel 9 in a phone interview that she did not have a drug problem, though.

Locals say they're afraid to eat at the Shake and Steak now.

"What if somebody had a reaction and they weren't an off-duty cop and they wouldn't know what to do," said Mike Skates to News Channel 9. "What if the staff didn't know what to do either?"

"It's a terrible thing for that to happen," said another customer who ate at that location that day. "Someone could get sick."

Steak & Shake corporate headquarters has not responded to the incident yet, but the owner of the franchise location, Matt Richman, was saddened by the events that took place. "We hope that this accident will be a wake-up call what will help her get her life back on the right track,” he said.
