Woman Receives Bouquet Of Birthday Flowers Fives Years After Losing Father

One Knoxville, Tennessee woman lost her father at the age of 16. Every year on her birthday, she had a bittersweet gift she looked forward to receiving: a bouquet of flowers. Her dad had pre-paid for the gift for five years. Now, at age 21, the woman is getting her last flower delivery from beyond the grave. It's an emotional time.

Michael William Sellers was dying from cancer when his daughter Bailey, was only 16 years old. Just two weeks after Christmas, the father was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. The doctors thought he would die within two weeks, but he survived six more months. He had enough time to make some plans.

To make his 'baby girl' smile, the father decided to purchase a gift that would keep on giving. He set up a plan to have flowers delivered to Bailey on her birthday.

“My dad passed away when I was 16 from cancer and before he died he pre-paid flowers so I could receive them every year on my birthday,” she explained on Twitter. “Well this is my 21st birthday flowers and the last. Miss you so much daddy.”

Bailey says she's ready to let the gift go. It's been hard since she lost her dad, and while the touching gift was a welcome reminder and kept him close to her heart, it also made every birthday since then a difficult occasion. The delivery would just churn up the painful memories.

“Ever since my dad passed away I’ve hated my birthday and I dread it every year because he always made it so special,” Bailey said to the New York Post. “I was especially dreading my 21st because I knew it would be the last year.”

When the purple flowers and card came this year on schedule, it was particularly difficult because she knew it would be the last one. It included a letter her father had written to her years earlier.

“This is my last love letter to you until we meet again,” wrote Michael. “I do not want you to shed another tear for me my baby girl for I am in a better place... Be happy and live life to the fullest.”

“I will still be with you through every milestone, just look around and there I will be," the dad added.

“I broke down,” admits Bailey. “That letter was very very awesome and sad all at the same time.”

Bailey posts the photo of her bouquet every year, and the story of her father, on Twitter. This year, however, the post went viral. The college student believes her dad had something to do with it. “He was trying to make my birthday spectacular," she said.

Many people praised Michael, calling him a 'good man' and a great example of a loving father. Bailey says her father would be thrilled to know his story touched the hearts of so many strangers.

“He would be very proud,” Sellers said of her dad. “I don’t even know. He would honestly say it was God, he’d be very proud that it touched a lot of people.”
