Woman Warns Other After She Claims Pedicure Led To A Horrible Leg Infection

Most women look forward to their time in the nail salon, where they can unwind and de-stress for an hour while having a pedicure and a manicure. But for one woman, her pedicure turned into a health nightmare.

Within a couple of weeks of getting a pedicure, Samantha Payne developed sores and lesions on her legs. Doctors found she was suffering from an infection that causes boils on the skin.

She suspects she was infected at the salon where she'd gotten her pedicure.

Payne watched the mysterious sores on her legs get worse as time went on. When the doctors told her she had a cutaneous mycobacterial infection, she was baffled.

According to Payne's attorney, Jamie Kessel, she had to have several procedures on her legs, leaving her with pain and scarring. Kessel tells NBC 12 "They had to be removed surgically, and it took several procedures to get those done, leaving her with scarring on her legs,"

Payne believes the salon failed to keep their conditions sanitary and properly disinfect all instruments. According to U.S. News, some 75 percent of nail salons do not strictly follow codes for properly disinfecting equipment.

Payne wouldn't be the first person to end up catching something at a salon. One man in Atlanta was nicked during a pedicure. That small nick soon became an open, gaping wound for Sammy Daniels.

He said the wound would not heal with the help of antibiotics, and eventually doctors had to amputate a bone in his foot along with his small toe.
