Woman Learns Her Ex Has Secretly Been Living In Her Attic

A South Carolina woman who lived alone with her children said she heard some noises in the attic, and initially ignored it. When things started getting worse, she called family members for help in checking out the attic.

They found the source of the noise: someone had been living up there.

Tracy and her kids live in Rock Hill, and the single mom says she's usually very careful about keeping doors and windows secure.

She worries about intruders, so she makes sure the house is always locked up tight. That's why she didn't think much of it when she heard noises in her attic.

The attic has no windows or doors to the outside; it can only be accessed from inside the home. Tracy assumed there was some kind of animal that got in, such as an opossum or a raccoon.

She'd occasionally hear something shuffling around.

After a few days, she noticed that nails were falling from the ceiling, as though something up there was just pushing them through the floor. She did not want to deal with any damage from whatever wildlife was living up there, so she called her adult sons and nephews to come and check it out for her.

The men went up into the attic, and they were stunned by what they found. This was no animal — it was a human being. A man was asleep on a pile of blankets, curled up next to a heater.

Tracy couldn't believe it, but was even more shocked to discover that she knew the man — she used to date him. He had stolen her car and went to jail. He was released just two weeks earlier, about the time the mysterious attic noises began.

They barricaded the attic and called 911. When the police arrived, however, the man had fled. Inside the attic, the police found his stash of food along with cups he used for a toilet, and there were several cups full of urine and feces up there.

Tracy says the scary part is that he must have snuck in through the house to get up into the attic. The police didn't arrest the man, but the mother has found him outside her house staring up at her. She and her children are traumatized and are hoping that he ends up behind bars again soon.
