Woman Says Starbucks Employee Was Rude Because Of Shirt She Was Wearing

The country is very divided right now, and it seems like just about any little thing you do or say can set someone off. One woman walked into a coffee shop to get a drink, only to be berated and humiliated by the counter person.

Kayla Hart was out one day wearing her 2016 election T-shirt. The election may be over, but a lot of people aren't ready to toss their old shirts and hats in the bin yet.

The shirt read 'Trump for President 2016'.

A lot of people don't like Trump, and for good reason. There is a lot of disagreement in the political arena about which direction the country should take, and President Donald Trump is trying to push it in a direction that is very alarming to many citizens.

The barista at Starbucks wasn't a Trump fan, and she's entitled to that opinion. But she took it too far when she began mocking Hart for her own political views, because Hart is entitled to her opinion, too.

Hart says that she was giving her name at the register when ordering her iced tea, and then the barista noticed her shirt. All of a sudden, the employee began bullying Hart and making fun of her.

Hart says she was very embarrassed. The barista laughed in Hart's face, and handed her the drink.

When Hart looked at it, she saw that her name wasn't on the receipt, as is customary. Instead, it read, 'BUILD A WALL'.

Hart says she just left the shop, feeling humiliated.

“I don’t know what politics has to do with getting a cup of coffee. I just walked out because everyone was staring," she said.

"I just found it really sad that I can’t wear a t-shirt with our president without being made fun of,” she told Fox 46 News.

Starbucks has long touted itself as an inclusive organization, but this employee seemed to think that the inclusiveness shouldn't extend across the political aisle. The corporation has admitted that the barista behaved badly and says they're trying to make amends.

“We failed to meet this customer’s expectations of us, and we have apologized and are working directly with her to make it right. We have spoken with our store partners about this situation and are using this as a coaching opportunity for the future," a statement from the company read.

Hart wants people to hear her story in hopes of raising awareness. No matter whether we like an elected politician or don’t like who was elected, there is a higher stake here that’s more important: freedom.

Politicians will come and go, and we can agree and disagree on issues, but if we start trying to shut down people just because they express an opinion or a viewpoint that differs from our own, then the country is going to head in a very dangerous direction.

The barista has a right to her opinion as well; she just chose a poor time and place to start berating someone else for theirs.

“I just want it to be put out there so people know this is what’s occurring,” Hart said. “I don’t think it’s right you should be humiliated for wearing a t-shirt with your opinion on it.”
