After Not Texting Back, Man Sends Woman Bill For Their First Date

Online dating is always a gamble. Sometimes, in the worst-case scenario, you could be inviting someone sinister and dangerous into your life.

In the best-case scenario, you could be meeting the person of your dreams and live happily ever after. For most of us, the dates fall somewhere in the middle.

Sometimes, there are just no sparks. One woman didn't feel any sparks with her date and had no plans of going on a second date. The man was so furious with her that he sent her a bill.

Amanda Burnett met a man online and the two went out for a casual date. She realized there and then that she had no interest in going any further with the relationship. When the man tried to contact her over the next few days to ask her out on a second date, she ghosted him.

Burnett thought the situation was over and done with, but then she got something unexpected: a bill. The man wanted reimbursement for the first date.

The total bill was for $39.52, and it was itemized. The man charged Burnett $10 each for drinks, $14.50 for her pulled pork taco platter, a processing fee of $1.99. and $2.58 tax.

“A guy just mailed me a bill for our dinner a few weeks ago because I didn’t text him back,” she said, posting the bill online. "I can't make this sh-t up."

Many people were outraged by the way Burnett ghosted the man. "If you don’t have the decency to text the guy back he’s in every right to make you pay for the meal,” one wrote. “Only fair!”

“So many girls just expect the guy to pay for everything,” complained another person.

Burnett was furious with some of her critics and set her account to private. “Cracks me up how people instantly are like, ‘well why didn’t YOU text him back??? You just wanted a free meal??’ YOU AS A WOMAN ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO GIVE A MAN ANYTHING IN EXCHANGE FOR A CHEAP DINNER,” she argued.

It's fair to say, Burnett didn't handle the situation well. When the guy began texting for another date, she should have had the courtesy to tell him 'thanks but no thanks'. Ignoring someone is rude.

Then again, based on this guy's behavior after the dinner, perhaps there was a reason to ignore him. Sending his date a bill was obnoxious.

As Burnett stated, when one person agrees to go out with another person, they are not obliged to have any further contact.

Dates can be expensive, particularly with drinks, dinner, show tickets or cover charges to get into clubs. In the past, it has usually been the man’s responsibility to foot the bill.

Times have changed, and many feel that, unless the person asking for the date makes it clear up front that costs will be split, the person extending the invitation (male or female) should be prepared to pay. Once the date is over, on one owes anyone anything.

If this guy extended an invitation and expected anything other than that single night out with his date, for better or for worse, then he’s the one who made the mistake.
